Happy Mother's Day Mom!

In 1988 my 24 year old mother gave birth to me on a rainy Sunday in Phoenix, Arizona. Her and my dad had very little money (read: we lived in a trailer) and times were tough. My mother was made to be just that: a mother. She has a great love of all children and understands the divine nature and calling that comes with raising children.

When I think back on my childhood, all my mind can conjure up is happy memories. She provided for me a safe, loving environment filled with joy and learning.

As a young girl, I was always attached to my mom at the hip. She was my rock, my safe place. She still is.

As I grew older we became even closer. There weren't many fights. There was no resentment. As a teenager I continued to cling to her and often called her my best friend.

Anyone who knows my mom knows what a giving, loving person she is. Throughout the years she has given me guidance and love when I thought I didn't deserve it.

There are no secrets between us and we often joke about that because I can't keep anything from her! I don't know why I ever would.

I wouldn't be the person I am today without her hand in my life.

Dear Mom:

I cannot imagine my life without you in it. We've said it before but it bears repeating: we were meant to take this journey on Earth together. You are the greatest example to me of what I want to be in the future, not only as a mother, but as a human being.

You are my very best friend. I go to you first with any problem I have, big or small, and you always listen patiently and give me kind advice and comfort.

I hope one day I can be half the mother you were to me. I can't wait to watch you blossom into your new role as grandmother and the joy that will bring you. All babies who join this family and privileged to have you in their lives.

There is no possible way for me to thank you enough for all you've done for me, but I hope you know how much I love you.

Love,

Whitney
